The first appointment is about evaluation and conversation. We evaluate your teeth, bite, and overall oral health to determine whether veneers are a good fit. We use our 3Shape Trios intraoral scanner to capture precise digital impressions of your teeth, which gives us an accurate model to work from when designing your veneers. This also means no traditional impression trays, which many patients find uncomfortable.

For porcelain veneers, a small amount of enamel is removed from the front of each tooth. This is necessary to create space for the veneer so it sits flush with the surrounding teeth rather than looking bulky. It’s a permanent change, which is something we discuss thoroughly before moving forward. Temporary veneers are placed while your permanent ones are being fabricated.

Once your veneers are ready, we bond them to your teeth using a strong dental adhesive. Dr. Michael M. Bohn checks the fit, shape, and color carefully before finalizing the placement. We use Bufferpro and Onset buffered anesthetic throughout any prep work to make the process as comfortable as possible, with faster onset and less of the sting that traditional anesthetics can cause.

With proper care, porcelain veneers typically last anywhere from 10 to 20 years. Composite veneers have a shorter lifespan, usually around 5 to 7 years, before they may need to be replaced or touched up.

Will veneers feel different in my mouth? There's usually a short adjustment period as you get used to the new shape and feel of your teeth. Most patients adapt within a week or two. If anything feels off with your bite after placement, we address it right away.

Can veneers fix crooked teeth? Veneers can create the appearance of straighter teeth in mild cases by altering the shape and size of the tooth surface. They don't physically move teeth, though. For more significant misalignment, orthodontic treatment is usually the more appropriate starting point.

What happens when veneers need to be replaced? When a veneer reaches the end of its lifespan, it can be removed and replaced with a new one. The underlying tooth structure remains, and the process is similar to the original placement. Regular checkups help us monitor wear so we can plan ahead rather than react to a sudden problem.
